He photographs amateur models, homeless people, people he found through an advertisement on Marktplaats, the Dutch online marketplace and so on. His work has been published in Foam Magazine, Vice, Mister Motley, GUP, NRC Handelsblad and Het Parool. Jan also exhibited in places such as; Antwerp, Istanbul, London and New York.
The local sex workers’ organization, S.W.E.A.T., gave Jan and Duran the opportunity to meet and collaborate with their transgender support group Sistaazhood from Cape Town, South Africa. For this project, Jan and Duran zoom in on six girls from the community. Jan Hoek made photographs of them, their lives and their outfits. Both Jan and Duran were interested in how the girls would like to look if they had unlimited possibilities. Duran used this as his inspiration and translated these fantasies into a dream-couture capsule collection, which is also photographed by Jan.
On Saturday the 16th of January photographer Jan Hoek and fashion designer Duran Lantink showed this collection called ‘Sistaaz of the Castle’ at Mercedes Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam. The project was also presented in an exhibition at Foam Photography Museum Amsterdam leading up to Mercedes Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam.
